Analyzing My Own Assumptions

Analyzing the Text’s Relationship to Our Own Cultural Assumptions

  1. One cultural or social value we share with the society/culture in which the text was written is the value of children. Whether you are a parent or not, a majority of the U.S. population values children as they are a vital part of our society. There are several people who have careers revolving around children because they want to help them, whether they educate children or counsel them.
  2. Some people in our society may not value physical education and believe it is not an important part of a child's life. They may feel that a child should not have to go outside and play sports with other children because sitting at home watching television is better for them.
  3. The text is not written in a culture that is different or distant than our own culture.
  4. I do not believe the text is written in a different historical time because it was written last February, and childhood obesity is still a major issue around the United States.

EDIT: After reading two of my classmate's Blog posts, I learned that people have different opinions on what they read about. For example, in Jake's post, he shared his opinion on intimacy between robots and humans.

  1. I agree with this assessment; children are, in theory at least, a very high priority among the other crucial issues of our day. I guess there might be a bias in favor of children's well-being here, and going forward, special attention ought to be paid to any facts that conflict with what is said publicly about children's welfare, and what is actually done to mitigate its obstacles.

  2. I like that you mention that generalities that people have, but also that you mention how some people can have an interesting, different opinion. I do agree, however, that kids are a vital part of society and I also think that physical education is much more important that sitting at home watching television. Children are very important to society.

  3. I like how you show that the majority of Americans deals with children on a day to day basis. Also how you show the importance of children in our society. I like your examples teachers and how their whole careers are about educating children. I agree with that and can see the importance and why Americans value children so much. I believe that children should have physical education as it has no bad effect on them. It is good in the short-term and the long-term.
